Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret aborde la création à partir d’une réflexion sur la perception, la représentation et l’occupation de l’espace. Explorant le seuil entre l’espace réel et l’espace imaginé, elle s'intéresse à ces deux moments comme un mouvement entre extériorité et intériorité, une circulation entre le dehors et la pensée. Les processus d’hybridation et de répétition sont au centre de sa pratique artistique. Ils génèrent des ambigüités entre les notions de surface et d’interface, entre l’espace de l’image et celle de l’objet. Dans ses projets récents, elle se dédie plus spécifiquement à la création de récits poétiques résultant d’explorations matérielles. Cette nouvelle avenue de recherche-création permet de réfléchir à l’organisation de nos espaces privés et publiques, à la gestion de la matière résiduelle ainsi qu’au potentiel performatif des objets et des matériaux qui nous entourent.

En complémentarité avec sa pratique artistique, Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret se consacre à l’étude des pratiques imprimées actuelles, plus spécifiquement aux pratiques de l’image, de l’installation et du livre d’artiste. À partir d’une perspective transdisciplinaire, elle s’intéresse aux principes formels et aux enjeux esthétiques de la mécanisation de l’image, aux dispositifs et aux stratégies de l’imprimé en arts visuels, à la matérialité de l’image numérique et imprimée, aux détournements des savoir-faire artisanaux en art actuel, à la psychologie de la perception visuelle et aux problématiques de l’espace. Ses projets de recherche-création s'incarnent sous diverses formes : installations et sculptures modulaires, images fixes et en mouvement, livres et publications d'artiste, œuvres évolutives et collaboratives, commissariats d’exposition.

Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret est artiste, commissaire et professeure à l’École des arts visuels et médiatiques (UQAM). Récipiendaire de la médaille académique du gouverneur général pour son mémoire de maitrise en 2011, elle détient un doctorat en études et pratiques des arts à l’Université du Québec à Montréal portant sur les approches transdisciplinaires de l’imprimé en arts visuels. Ses œuvres ont été diffusés dans plusieurs expositions au Canada et à l’étranger notamment à Belffroi de Montrouge (Paris, France), Maison Heinrich Heine (Paris, France), Museo Nacional de la Estampia (Mexico, Mexique), Musée d’art de Joliette (Joliette, QC, Canada), San Pedro Museo de Arte (Puebla, Mexico), Arte&Arte (Cômo, Italy), Museum Rijswijk (Rijswijk, Pays-Bas), Eastern Edge Gallery (St-John's, NL, Canada), Martin Art Gallery (Allentown, PA, États-Unis), Open Studio (Toronto, ON, Canada), Design Space Gallery (Tel Aviv, Israël), Parisian Laundry (Montréal, QC, Canada), Martha Street Studio (Winnipeg, Canada), Crane Arts Building (Philadelphie, PA, États-Unis). Elle a également réalisé plusieurs livres d’artiste qui ont été présentés et collectionnés au Canada et à l’étranger notamment à Berkeley University of California ainsi qu’au Art Institute of Chicago. Depuis 2014, elle travaille sur différents projets de commissariat d’expositions afin de mettre en valeur les pratiques imprimées actuelles.

ARTIST STATEMENT AND BIOGRAPHY

Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret approaches the creation through a reflection on the perception and the use of space. Walking the line between actual space and imaginary space, is interested in the shift between these two entities, in the exterior and the interior, in the movement between the outside world and inner thought. Inspired by scientific images and modeling of natural and architectural forms, she develops various arrangements of geometric and organic systems that question how tools and interfaces involved in building our world view, our subjectivity. Hybridization and repetition are fundamental processes in her practice. They generate ambiguity between notions of surface and interface, between the space of an image and that of an object. In her recent projects, she dedicates herself more specifically to the creation of poetic narratives resulting from material explorations. This new avenue of research-creation allows us to think about the organization of our private and public spaces, the management of residual material as well as the performative potential of the objects and materials that surround us.

In complementarity with her artistic practice, Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret devotes herself to the study of current printed practices, more specifically to the practices of image, installation and the artist's book. From a transdisciplinary perspective, she is interested in the formal principles and aesthetic issues of the mechanization of the image, in the devices and strategies of print in visual arts, in the materiality of the digital and printed image, the diversion of craft in contemporary art, the psychology of visual perception and the problems of space. His research-creation projects are embodied in various forms: modular installations and sculptures, fixed and moving images, books and artist's publications, evolving and collaborative works, exhibition curators.

Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret is an artist, a curator and a professor at the École des arts visuels et médiatiques (UQAM). Recipient of the Governor General's Academic Medal for her master's thesis in 2011, she have a PHD in arts studies and practices at the University of Quebec in Montreal focusing on transdisciplinary approaches to print in the visual arts. She has presented work in several exhibitions in Canada and abroad, including Belffroi de Montrouge (Paris, France), Maison Heinrich Heine (Paris, France), Museo Nacional de la Estampia (Mexico City, Mexico), Musée d’art de Joliette (Joliette, QC, Canada), San Pedro Museo de Arte (Puebla, Mexico), Arte&Arte (Cômo, Italy), Eastern Edge Gallery, (St-John’s, NL, Canada), Museum Rijswijk (Den Haag, Netherland), Open Studio Gallery (Toronto, ON, Canada), Design Space Gallery (Tel Aviv, Israel), Parisian Laundry (Montreal, QC, Canada), Martha Street Studio (Winnipeg, MB, Canada) and Crane Arts (Philadelphia, PA, USA). She has also created many artist books, which have been shown and collected in Canada and abroad, including by the Berkeley University of California (Environmental Design Library), as well as the Art Institute of Chicago (Flaxman Library). Since 2014, she has been working on various curatorial projects in order to showcase current print practices.
